Early Bird Solar Tour to Urban Off-the-Grid sites
(10:15 a.m.)

Assemble at 10:15 a.m. at the north door of the Student Commons to carpool to this home just south of Pierpont. The integrated green design of the home includes many passive solar techniques including eaves for controlling solar gain, a trombe wall and clerestories for natural daylighting. The north side of the home is earth sheltered and the home is extremely energy efficient. While there is a backup wood stove system, most of the needed heat is provided by the sun. The house was built in 1983 by Robyn Magner, with the active participation of the homeowner. Tour should return by 11:45, so that participants will not miss any workshops.
